Rick Springfield!!!

I used to browse and read articles in the local paper all the time but lately I just hadn't been in the reading mood. Well, today I thought it's been a while so I picked it up and there I saw it on the front page...oh my gosh...Rick Springfield will be performing at my city's Memorial Day weekend celebration!!! This is a such a great thing that the City Council does because it's free, yes, free; last year it was KC and the Sunshine Band!! (KC was so nice that he signed autographs after the show.) I've also seen REO Speedwagon and several other groups over the years. But anyway, it's funny because the other day in the car I heard one of Rick's songs as my son was changing the stations and I was like hey that's Rick Springfield so he left it on; then I saw him on Oprah a few weeks ago and now today I read he's going to be performing. Wow, how exciting!!!

March Blog Hop

I decided to join in on the challenge for the March Blog Hop at Papertrey Ink. The inspiration was to make a project with ribbon as the focal point.

For this card I used my Spellbinders nestablilites die to cut the oval. I used ribbon to fill in the shape. Stamped message is from Papertrey Ink's mixed messages set.

Blessed candle

I finally tried it...the tissue paper and wax paper technique to transfer stamped images to a candle! It was quite easy and fun. I purchased two candles from a dollar store several months ago because this was going to be for practice, I didn't want to spend alot of money, and I didn't know how it was going to turn out. Well, now I would like to try this technique on a colored candle; of course I think I'll use a coupon at A.C. Moore or Michael's because candles can be somewhat expensive depending on the size.

Stamps are by Inque Boutique: Stephanie Barnard collection - mini Thanksgiving and Anita's Art stamps

I found the tutorial here. Click on the link called resources at the top of the page and then on the next screen type stamped candle in the search box to get to the tutorial. I'm sorry; I tried to but I can't get the link to the tutorial to post here.

Onesie Announcement card

I found these great packs of paper at Target a few weeks ago for about $5 for a pack of 12 sheets (2 sheets per design). I grabbed a few different colors schemes because they are just lovely. They are by Marcella K or it could be K Marcella; I'm not sure but anyway, I just looked and see that this is a trademark of K and Company...no wonder they are pretty! I selected a sheet from the patterned paper multi set to make this card. I cut the paper into the onesie shape and adhered to card front then trimmed bottom edges of card to match the curve of the card. I used blue paper to add all the shirt details. I used a button die cut to cut buttons from shrink plastic and then I heated them to shrink down; the button I selected to use (there are 3 on the die) turned out to be the perfect size when shrunk to fit on the flap.

Mini Canvas bag

Just playing around to see how stamping on canvas would look. I practiced stamping with some paint which wasn't too bad but then I switched to pigment ink which looks so much better; I stamped so much on the second side that uh well, lol, I would have to cover it up with another piece of canvas or some other fabric! The flowers would probably look even better with a backdrop of sky but I'm not that talented, lol. I added the grass with a marker and I used images from the Inque Boutique mini escape stamp set and ribbon from my stash.

Shrink Plastic

The past several weeks, I've seen various jewelry creations using shrink plastic. I also bought a book a few weeks ago called 100 Great Ways to Use Rubber Stamps which has instructions on making earrings. Well I gave it try and made my own earrings. I actually wore my heart earrings the other day to work because it matched my outfit; I wasn't even thinking about using colors from my wardrobe, I just used similar colors in the instructions and it just turned out that it matched my outfit for that day so that was a bonus.

I didn't know if it would work because of the thickness of the plastic but I was able to cut out the shapes using my circle and heart punch. But, I did have to use a little extra muscle when pushing down on the punch. I used white shrink plastic for the round earrings and clear shrink plastic for the heart earrings. After punching out the shapes, I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch the holes before stamping and shrinking. I used images from Inque Boutique's Mini Escape set. And, I added some blue and white seed beads to the heart earrings.

It was hard to get a good clear close up picture especially for the heart earrings but it looks nice IRL.
